Frome Selwood is a town in Somerset on the River Frome located about 21 kilometres from Bath. It is in the north east of the county and enjoys the benefit of glorious countryside in the Mendip Hills. In the middle of the 19th century the town organised race meetings, the first of which was held on Thursday 21st August 1845. By 1847 Mr Wilkinson, of Standerwick Court House, had agreed to be chief steward and The George had agreed to host the Ordinary. The principal race on Wednesday 22nd September 1847 was the Frome Selwood Stakes which was captured by New Forest Deer. The final meeting took place on Friday 25th August 1848. |
